DBI - Danish Institute of Fire and Security Technology has unique facilities for carrying out trials of total flooding extinguishing systems. Both standard and ad-hoc tests are performed. The main reasons for carrying out trials with total flooding systems is to ascertain the correct positioning of the system nozzles and to measure the amount of agent necessary to furnish protection in the room or area which is to be protected.
DBI's total flooding facility fulfils IMO requirements for testing of fire extinguishing equipment for use in accomodation areas, as well as in engine rooms.
The room is furnished with a large glass wall so that the progress of the test can be followed from the adjoining room.

Automatic total flooding systems are used on board ships, in archives, computer rooms and production facilities and as point protection as a supplement to a sprinkler system. Total flooding systems are based on inert gasses or water.
