Materials and equipment for ships can be fire tested by new, updated procedures.
DBI is ready to tests
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has adopted the revised fire test procedures. The new procedures will take effect on 1 July 2012, after which marine products can be approved accordingly.
11 fire test procedures have been revised in the new FTP Code. It affects shipbuilding components such as decks, bulkheads, doors, fire door control systems, surface materials and floor coverings as well as interior materials such as draperies, curtains, bedding and upholstered furniture.
Avoid delays at the fire test labs
Upon commencement of the new procedures there will be a 12 month period of grace for issuance of type approval certificates of products tested in accordance with the previous version of the IMO FTP Code (IMO resolution MSC.61(67), i.e. until 30 June 2013.
DBI was among the first to upgrade equipment and procedures and has subsequently gained official accreditation to carry out fire tests. This means that DBI can perform fire tests for all 11 revised fire test procedures and has already carried out a series of tests according to the new procedures.
